Elon didn't say that… but yes, it's in our best interest for OnlyFans to shut down.

The rumor spread like wildfire: “Elon Musk buys OnlyFans and shuts it down.” The phrase “Yeah, I’ll do it. I don’t see why not” originated on a parody account following rumors about Leonid Radvinsky’s death. Instagram, TikTok, and X were flooded with memes and celebrations.

Reality: Elon never said that. There isn't a single tweet, statement, or serious indication that he plans to spend billions shutting down a platform. It's classic fake news designed to generate clicks and drama.

But here's my opinion as someone who's been in the ecosystem for years: even if the rumor is false, an OnlyFans shutdown would be good news for most creators.

Why it's in our best interest for the monopoly to fall
  1. The predatory pyramid of the top 1% is breaking down. OnlyFans became a brutal "winner-take-all" system. A small group of superstars took the lion's share, while thousands of girls invested time, money, and energy in promotion just to survive on crumbs. As the market fragmented into Fansly, Fanvue, Passes, LoyalFans, and other platforms, that concentrated power was diluted. More real competition meant more opportunities for mid-sized creators and specific niches.
  2. A major blow to toxic agencies
  3. Many agencies charge 30-50% (or more) promising “professional management,” but in reality, they saturate X, Instagram, and TikTok with spam links and cheap advertising. They don't help build brands; they only burn out audiences and leave the girls dependent. If OnlyFans loses its dominance, several of these agencies will have to close or reinvent themselves. Only those that truly provide value will survive: smart marketing, legal advice, and real support.
  4. It forces healthy diversification.
  5. The savviest creators are already on multiple platforms simultaneously. A crackdown on OnlyFans would accelerate that shift. Instead of putting all their eggs in one basket (with a 20% commission and constantly changing rules), these women would learn to build their own audiences, cultivate loyal fans, and utilize the more flexible tools offered by other platforms.
  6. Impact on X and the ecosystem
  7. Yes, X would lose some traffic and verified accounts from sex workers. But it would also reduce the spam that bothers many users. Ultimately, a platform less dependent on toxic advertising can be healthier in the long run.
The truth from the ground

Adult content isn't going away. It never has, and it never will. It will just shift, fragment, and become more competitive. Those who can adapt—by creating quality content, genuinely engaging with their fans, and promoting ethically—will emerge stronger. Those who were just spamming links… will have to raise their game or find something else.

Since OnlyFansly, I've always championed guilt-free sexual freedom: a woman can be sexy, powerful, and in control of her body all at the same time. Shutting down OnlyFans isn't a moralistic attack; it's simply breaking up a monopoly that ended up creating toxic dynamics for most people.

Elon probably won't do it (he has much bigger things on his plate), but the mere fact that so many people in the industry are celebrating the idea says a lot: the current ecosystem is saturated, dependent, and tired of the same old rules of the game.

Are you ready for change?

Alternative platforms are already growing. The most professional creators are already diversifying. The future of adult content doesn't depend on a single app… it depends on who can adapt the fastest. What do you think? Do you believe Fansly and the others are prepared to absorb the tsunami, or would this be the perfect time for new, fairer players to emerge?
